UN likes the attention Russia gives to children's rights in Northern Caucasus

The United Nations is satisfied with the attention Russia pays to the rights of children in the Northern Caucasus who have suffered from the military conflict in the Chechen republic. Olara Otunu, special envoy of the United Nations secretary general for children and armed conflicts, said this to Russian journalists after a meeting with Vladimir Yelagin, Russian Minister for Chechen Affairs.

Otunu said that Yelagin has informed him of work done by the federal government in Chechnya. Social and economic aspects of the rehabilitation of Chechnya were in focus.

Olara Otunu also spoke of Yelagin's information on the rehabilitation of schools, hospitals and other social institutions in Chechnya. Recreation for Chechen children outside Chechnya was also in discussion. "I've formed a good impression of what the Russian authorities have done in this direction", stressed the special envoy of the UN secretary general.
