Igor Ivanov: tensions between India and Pakistan start easing

According to the G-8 Ministers of Foreign Affairs, international efforts, specifically by the G-8 countries, have made it possible to ease the tension between India and Pakistan, a RIA Novosti correspondent quotes Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov as saying to journalists in Canada on Thursday.

According to him, though these signs are positive, they are only the first moves in the problem of settling the conflict between India and Pakistan.

As Ivanov said, it is a task of the international community to prevent the terrorists from exploiting tension between New Delhi and Islamabad to escalate the situation on the Indo-Pakistani border. It is necessary to continue the de-escalation process and to bring this issue back into the framework of a political dialogue. This concerns, in particular, the problem of Kashmir, the Russian Minister pointed out.
