Bolshoi Theater to bring sensation to Washington

Russia’s Bolshoi Theater begins its second concert tour in Washington. The Kennedy Center greets the guests with multicolored banners representing different states; its stage is really magnificent.

The last time the Bolshoi Theatre visited Washington was in 2001. The New York Times praised Romeo and Juliet then: “The Bolshoi never lost its original image, an image that amazes. The performance combined the might of technique, dramatic performance, and even choreographic innovations.” And the Washington Post wrote about Don Quijote: “The Bolshoi’s version beats all the rest. It represents a dance of such tension and strength that can only be desired. No doubt, Spanish heritage was wonderfully depicted with the help of Russian classical style, and the adventures of an old knight are successfully narrated.”

On June 11, a galaconcert with the participation of Bolshoi’s stars is to open a one-week tour of the Russian theater in Washington. This time, American spectators will be presented with the famous ballets of the theatre – Swan Sea and Bayaderka, which are also considered a calling card of the Bolshoi Theatre. Nadezhda Gracheva, Anastasiya Volochkova, Anna Antonicheva, Maria Aleksandrova, Maria Allash, Andrey Uvarov, Nikolay Tsiskaridze, and Yeugeny Ivanchenko are to play the key roles. The famous actors are to dance together abroad for the first time, although the majority of them have already proved that the Bolshoi Theater is keeping the Russian tradition alive.

A two-month tour of the wonderful theater is scheduled for autumn. It is expected that the tour will be interesting not only for immigrants from Russia, but also for American followers of Russian ballet as well.
