Projects Discussed at Baltic States Council in St. Petersburg for Northern Dimension

Russian Prime Minister Mikhael Kasyanov announced at a press conference for the Baltic States Council summit that Northern Dimension projects (concerning general plans rather than specific regions) were discussed yesterday in St. Petersburg. He said that, in dealing with ecological issues, primary attention will be placed on those regions which have an influence on the ecological situation in the Baltic Sea. In particular, Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen mentioned yesterday the signing of documents concerning the project on sewage disposal plants. Kasyanov underlined that the Finnish projects are to be carried out in the near future.

Kasyanov also said that transport issues were discussed at the summit, which are in fact not only for the Leningrad and Kaliningrad Regions, but for all states of the Baltic States Council. In particular the Prime Ministers of Baltic states said that they were ready to invest in the creation of a transport infrastructure on the territories of their states.
