Japanese fans are arrested as well

The weak game of the Russian squad led to conflicts not only in Russia, but in Japan too, but the emotions were different, of course: Japanese fans were rejoicing. Japanese newspaper Mainichi wrote that fresh newspapers had never been in that demand in Japan as they were on Monday morning. A 70-year-old newspaper seller said that football excitement was close to September 11 events. The majority of newspapers increased their circulation and they were all sold out.

It stands the reason that sadness creates aggressiveness, not exultation, but Japanese police had to do a lot of work anyway. Someone jumped into river off a bridge, others launched firecrackers when driving, someone else was arrested for using obscene language against police officers. Finally, a young man was arrested for taking his clothes off and dancing around the people naked. The mentioned newspaper wrote that the people, who gathered around the dancing guy, were rather unhappy about the fact that police officers had to stop the show.

Japanese headlines now look like this: “The Historic Victory.” The word “historic” has both a political and a sport meaning. The Sunday game marked the first victory of the Japanese team in the history of final games of world championships. Japanese perceive the victory as the revenge for the Russian “occupation” of the Kurile islands.
