Arsenals alone no longer enough for security: Putin

Russia needs integration into the international security system, while firmly promoting its own stances. The country must be able to stand up for its interests today and in the future, pointed out President Vladimir Putin as he was addressing this afternoon's Russia concert hall gala on the 10th establishment anniversary of the federal Security Council.

The force of arms alone can no longer vouch for national security, and no country is able to guarantee its security singlehanded.

The President mentioned a two-fold content of pioneer technologies--while promoting progress, they can also be put to the service of organised crime, and arms and drug traffic.

Russia has not bridled crime and corruption to this day, however hard it try. Efforts against drug traffic and extremism leave much to be desired. Entrepreneurs' safety cannot be guaranteed. Even more importantly, not enough has been done to protect public interests and guarantee human rights. All those vital challenges are part and parcel of the national security cause, said the President.
