EU ready to "display flexibility" in issuing visas to Kaliningrad's inhabitants

The EU is ready to "display flexibility" in issuing visas to the inhabitants of the Kaliningrad region, Russia's territory in the Baltic, said Richard Wright, head of the European Commission's delegation in Russia, at a press conference in RIA Novosti.

The European Union is also willing to contribute to improving the border and customs infrastructures at the boundaries of the region separated from the rest of the country by Lithuania, he said.

The problems of the region connected with the EU's coming expansion are constant topics on the agenda of talks between Russian and EU representatives. The EU believes that after Lithuania and Poland join the Union every Russian citizen will have to obtain a visa for crossing the border. The Russian party "wants to find another solution," Wright said.

The final decision may be taken during a Russian-EU summit due on May 29th in Moscow, he believes.
