"Massive" Gas Find In Ordos Basin, Northern China

A large natural gas field with “massive proven reserves” in the Ordos Basin, located in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been discovered by the Changqing Oil and Gasfield Company, the state media reported yesterday. The gas field, which is called Sulige, has about 602.5 billion cubic meters of probable natural gas reserves, reported the China Daily, citing the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The field is expected to produce an average six and a half billion cubic meters of natural gas a year in the next five years, it said, without providing details on whether production has started. It will provide gas to northern and northwestern Chinese cities and provinces, including the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the report said.
