Israel: Labour leader wants peace

Labour leader Ben-Eliezer wants to see a Palestinian State beside Israel, while he accepts that Jerusalem can become a divided city.

Binyamin Ben-Eliezer declared to the Central Committee of the labour Party that he accepts “a vision of two states, living peacefully, side by side”, while his rival for the leadership of the party, Haim Ramon, favours a unilateral Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories.

Ben-Eleizer, who is also Israeli Defence Minister, wants a Palestinian State composed of the West bank and the Gaza Strip and declares that the territory will be “unitary”. However, he also declared that he does not see in Yasser Arafat an interlocutor in the peace process.
