Conference on Defence Industry problems opens in Nizhni Novgorod

A conference On Implementation of Security Council Decisions in Defence Industry and Science and Technology Security has opened in Nizhni Novgorod. The conference is chaired by Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo. While opening the conference Rushailo noted that over the past six months the president of Russia had approved a number of documents specifying the Russian Federation's policy in developing the defence and industrial complex (DIC). The terms of implementation of a number of decisions in the defence sector have already expired and there are grounds for a serious talk, Rushailo stressed. The Russian Security Council Secretary named certain DIC problems. According to Rushailo, the complex needs structural restructuring. As many as 27 percent of DIC enterprises do not manufacture defence products. Enterprise capacities operate only at 20 percent. It is necessary to accelerate inventorying enterprises in this sphere, Rushailo stated. According to him, the wear and tear of fixed assets of DIC enterprises "can't help but arouse concern." Moreover, 60 percent of Russian enterprises operate in the interests of foreign customers, whereas "irregular deliveries of isolated species" are being made to the Russian army.
