Area of forest fires in Kamchatka keeps increasing fast

The area of forest fires in Kamchatka (a peninsula in the Sea of Okhotsk) has increased by nearly 200 hectares over the past 24 hours. As the control room officials of the Kamchatka air base of forest protection said, the greatest damage is done to the woodlands in the Milkovsky district. At the present time the firemen working round the clock have managed to stop the fire. Single cases of ignition are registered in the suburbs of Yelizovo and Petropavlovsk. As a rule, fire emerges through the fault of holiday-makers, since forests suffer most of all in the recreational zones favoured by townspeople. The fact that forest fires emerge in difficult-of-access places makes it more difficult to extinguish them.
