Eurasian Economic Community experts to look at state of nuclear waste storage in Kyrgyzstan

On Monday the experts of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Economic Community has arrived to Bishkek to examine the state of the nuclear waste storage in the Kyrgyz Republic. The press service of Jogorka Kenesh (Kyrgyz parliament) reported it on Monday. The experts are expected to examine a number of nuclear waste storages set up in the Soviet time. The working group is intending to visit the Kara-Baltinsk, Kadji-Saisk, Maily-Suisk and Min-Kushsk storages. It has become known that a panel of experts was set up after the members of the Legislative Assembly of Jogorka Kenesh addressed the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Community. The state of many storages evokes fears as they might upset the ecological situation not only in Kyrgyzstan, but in the neighboring ones. The experts are planning to look into the situation on the spot to advise on the possible utilization of the facilities. During their visit to Bishkek they are expected to meet the Abdygany Erkebayev, the Speaker of the Parliament's Legislative Assembly.
