Taiga fires in the Far East threatening railway

Thirty fire-fighting trains and 20 automobile crews of the Far-Eastern railway have been extinguishing fires on the Nakhodka-Tynda route. The fire from the burning forests is approaching the zone of the railway branch and threatening its facilities and structures, paramilitary guard service chief Valery Shigarev reported Sunday. Over the past 24 hours, mobile trains have extinguished over a dozen fires in the Maritime and Khabarovsk territories and the Amur region, noted Valery Shigarev. All the freight and passenger trains, diesel engines and electric locomotives of the road have be equipped with the spark suppression systems and fire extinguishing means. This is why none of the fires in the zone of the railway branch was caused by passing trains. According to the data provided by the regional center of the emergencies ministry, 158 fires on an area of over 28,000 hectares, or double the number registered on Saturday, have been registered in the federal district, where warm and dry weather set on.
