Law on farmland ought to have financial security

Krasnodar Governor Alexander Tkachev thinks that a law on sale and purchase of farmland should be secured financially. Speaking Monday at a State Council session, he said that it was not quite clear on what money even prosperous farms, to say nothing of municipal authorities, will buy farmland. Residents in my Kuban area are worried over the fact that the available bill will lead to farmers to be bereft of their land and, as a result, to slump in agricultural production, said Tkachev. According to him, 70 percent of the Kuban population have lifted their voices against this law. Still, he finds it positive that the bill grants every region the right to decide on its own when farmland-ownership rights should be introduced. Tkachev believes that there are weighty political and economic considerations for passing this law but still it calls for amendments widening the rights and heeding the interests of the provinces.
