Tajikistan assigns priority to cooperation with Russia

Tajikistan assigns priority to cooperation with Russia in foreign policy, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov said. On Monday he delivered an address before the Tajik parliament and characterised relations with Russia as "an important factor of regional security." Tajikistan and Russia have established good political links and military-political cooperation over 10 years of independence, the Tajik leader said. We are ready to develop economic cooperation with Russia, Rakhmonov noted. Tajikistan comes out for the consolidation of integration within the Commonwealth of Independent States, he added. After the September 11th events Tajikistan has attracted the attention of the leading countries, Rakhmonov stressed. "We should make use of this favourable situation and aim at establishing relations with the USA, France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan and other members of the anti-terrorist coalition on a firm legal basis," the Tajik president said.
