The first International Choreographic Competition has opened in Novosibirsk. The jury will choose the best act in each of four categories, children's dance, modern dance, classical dance, and folk dance. According to the organising committee, the event has stirred up a great deal of interest and gathered 182 choreographers from 15 countries, including Russia. Competitions of the kind are seldom held on an international level, and those that are cover only two fields, ballet and modern dance, which means choreographers specializing in folk or children's dances have no chance to compete. The program of the event, which closes on May 7, includes round-table discussions of choreographic problems, seminars, lectures, concert performances and master classes conducted by world class specialists.
