The State Duma /the lower house of parliament/ has ratified the treaty on friendship, trade and cooperation between Russia and Paraguay. The treaty creates favourable conditions for cooperation between Russia and Paraguay in the political, scientific, economic and many other spheres, noted deputy foreign minister Sergei Ordzhonikidze. The treaty fully meets the interests of the Russian Federation; it will contribute to strengthening Russia's positions among the countries of "the southern cone" and the rest of Latin America, he said. The treaty provides for joint efforts in combating terrorism, contraband and illegal migration. The treaty will not entail additional expenses from the federal budget, said Ordzhonikidze. Russia signed similar treaties with Argentina and Panama. The treaty with Brazil is at the ratification stage now. (kul/nog)
