Russia Does Not Think NATO's Eastward Expansion Is Necessitated

Russia thinks there is no reason or necessity for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's expansion to the east. This was said by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov in Stockholm after official negotiations with his Swedish opposite number Goran Persson. The Russian premier noted that NATO's movement to the east "is not wise and alarms Russia". In his opinion, common stability is being established in Europe and the attempts by Alliance to march to the east are only detrimental to this process. According to Kasyanov, the expansion problem was not discussed at his meeting with Goran Persson.
