Russian nuke-generated electricity sales make up 600-650 million dollars annually

The annual receipts from Russian nuclear power sales constitute between 600 and 650 million dollars. This was said by Russian Nuclear Power Minister Alexander Rumyantsev at a sitting of the agroindustrial group at the State Duma /the lower chamber of Russian parliament/. He said that amendments to the law On the Environment would let Russia bring in wasted nuclear fuel for processing and partial use. Receipts from the processing of wasted nuclear fuel arriving from foreign countries would allow, according to Rumyantsev, to bury own nuclear waste stockpiles on the Russian territory. "Today there are about 200,000 tonnes of wasted nuclear fuel in the world", he reported. The minister expressed hope that "Russia will manage to take in for processing 10 percent of this amount". "It is a lucrative commercial project", he said. And stressed that "all receipts from the processing will be channelled to the federal budget". He assured deputies that "the procedure of processing will be maximally open".
