China creates web site in memory of missing pilot

A memorial web site devoted to Wan Wei, who has been missing since his fighter aircraft collided with the American spy plane over the South China Sea, has been created by the Information Agency of China. The creation of the site of part of a nation-wide campaign aimed at raising patriotic spirit in Chinese citizens, according to RBC news agency. Pilot Wan has already became a people’s hero. Sympathizers may enter the site and leave their messages, including lyrics and songs. You may also bring in a virtual bunch of flowers or a bottle of wine. Or else, you can even light a virtual candle. The Chinese military have stopped searching for the pilot as late as April 14th while his close ones keep on waiting for him to return, hoping for a miracle. In his home town, Mr. Wan was declared “martyr of the revolution” – China is fairly skilled in honouring its national heroes. Tomorrow, on April 18th, talks are to resume in Beijing over returning by the Chinese side of the detained US plane. The Chinese authorities have already let Washington know they are ready to demonstrate a “nonpolemical and direct approach.”
