Putin turns down resignation of broadcasting corporation director

Russian President Vladimir V. Putin has rejected the resignation of Oleg Dobrodeyev, head of the state-owned TV channel VGTRK. According to presidential press secretary Alexei Gromov, the head of state received Oleg Dobrodeyev in the Kremlin on Monday afternoon. During the conversation the president suggested that Dobrodeyev retain the post of the chairman of the All-Russian tele-radio broadcasting company. Dobrodeyev announced his hasty decision to quit on Saturday, April 14. He said this step was motivated by the fact that he could not arrive at the NTV office as head of the VGTRK company. The new NTV leadership took office at the NTV headquarters in the early hours of Saturday. Dobrodeyev said he could not but go there on Friday night because he was certain that the events would have developed according to the worst and most complicated scenario. According to Dobrodeyev, he has never betrayed anyone or made a decision on his own. However, he noted, it was late at night and he had no choice. Dobrodeyev stressed that though choosing to resign, he acknowledged his fault before the president and the colleagues alike.
