Environmentalists from the Ulyanovsk regional station of young naturalists and the public ecological organisation "Symbiosis" won the grant to conduct in the region the "Tzarevna-Frog" competition among school children, students and teachers aimed at protection of local amphibians and reptiles. The competition will be organized with financial support provided by a US fund company and with the participation of the Nizhny Novgorod society to protect amphibians and reptiles. In the opinion of organizers, this event will help to learn more about the local fauna, all the more the Ulyanovsk region is considered a "white spot" in herpetology. Ecologists are hopeful that the project will be conducive to creation of specially protected natural territories in the region. During the year competitions in six nominations will be organized in schools and higher educational institutions: research works about amphibians and reptiles, school compositions, photographs, mass media publications, children drawings and practical assistance.
