Moscow criticises USA decision strengthen the security zone around Cuba

The US administration's decision to strengthen the security zone around Cuba flies in the face of US President George W. Bush's statements about the intent to finally scrap the "relics of the Cold War", Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Tuesday. The document notes that the US decision to extend for another year the extraordinary mode of navigation for US air and sea vessels in the vicinity of Cuban coast "is reminiscent of the times when prejudice dominated foreign policy decision-making that was to address national interests," RIA Novosti announces. The Russian Foreign Ministry would not accept the American reasoning behind the decision, which refers to the necessity to scale up security measures in the face of "the allegedly persisting threat from Havana".
