MICOM metals group chief detained in France

Mikhail Zhivilo, the president of the Metallurgical and Investment Company (MICOM) was detained yesterday in France. He has been sought for by Russian law-enforcement bodies through Interpol in 178 countries from August last year on charges of the alleged plotting to assassinate Kuzbass governor Aman Tuleyev. The detention was carried out by the Unit for Fighting International Terrorism of the French Interior Ministry. Since France, like the majority of the European counties, has joined the European extradition convention, Mr. Zhivilo faces being extradited to his homeland.
