Russian parliament set to propose breaking Iraqi sanctions

State Duma deputies may call on the government to unilaterally lift sanctions against Iraq. The deputies are very much alarmed by what has happened, Dmitri Rogozin, chairman of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, told journalists yesterday. According to Mr. Rogozin, “diplomatic ways of solving the problem have been exhausted,” as the new US administration “starts with a scuffle having committed “an unmotivated aggression” against Iraq. In this connection, the committee intends to propose Duma deputies to adopt an address to the Russian government asking to make a decision to unilaterally lift sanctions imposed on Iraq, Mr. Rogozin is quoted by RBC as saying.
