Raduyev to be tried in Daghestan

An investigation into the case of Salman Raduyev, a Chechen warlord, was completed January 29th. Mr. Raduyev has started to familiarize himself with the files. It cannot be ruled out that the court proceedings will take place in Republic of Daghestan, Imam Yaraliyev, the republic’s procurator is quoted as saying. The point is that, under the existing legislation, a suspect should be tried where the crime has been committed. However, according to RIA Novosti, Russia’s Supreme court is to take the final decision. Our corespondent in Daghestan reports that the local people’s attitude to Mr. Raduyev is extremely negative there. The raid of the city of Kizlyar as well as the subsequent attack on Daghestan, undertaken by Mr. Raduyev and his men, have left a grave imprint on the public opinion in the republic.
