India’s coastguard has detained in the country’s economic zone an alien vessel reportedly engaged in gathering classified information. The vessel was detected January 7th by a coastguard helicopter, India’s defence ministry spokesman is quoted as saying in Bombay by RIA Novosti. In his word, such kind of information is normally collected before sending submarines into the area. According to the spokesman, the vessel belongs to one of “friendly countries,” and the Indian authorities have notified its government of the incident through diplomatic channels. The spokesman would not go into detail mentioning it might run counter to the Indian interests.
