US president's adviser: Russia should move in the Western direction

The USA should support Russia's efforts to cooperate with the world community and international institutions like the G-8 group or the WTO, said the US president's national security adviser Samuel Berger in New York on Thursday, addressing the Council on Foreign Relations. Berger expressed belief that "President Putin wants to build a contemporary Russia that could be a part of world economy. He realizes that to achieve this Russia should move in the Western direction", RIA Novosti announces. According to Berger, the US foreign policy in the new "global era" should be based on the necessity of building "constructive relations" with such former enemies, as Russia and China.
