A Sharm-el Sheikh summit may fail to take place, Clinton’s plan being endorsed in Israel

A scheduled for today summit attended by Israeli Premier Ehud Barak, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak seems hardly to come about. At the same time, the Israeli Cabinet’s overnight meeting resulted in the approval by the majority of ministers to the so-called “Clinton plan” concerning the Israeli-Palestinian peaceful settlement. The Ministers think it could afford a basis for the talks provided the Palestinians would be ready to do the same, RIA Novosti reports. 10 ministers voted “for,” 2, “against,” with 2 abstentions. The Palestinians have reportedly forwarded a letter to US president Bill Clinton expressing disagreement with a number of his proposals. But, on the whole, the “Clinton plan” has not been rejected by them.
