Proposing confederation, Annan fails to appease Kosovo Albanians. They start to demand complete independence

Pravda.ru has already reported of the demonstration held by Kosovo Albanians outside the UN building protesting against Kosovo Serbs taking part in the parliamentary elections. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan reacted promptly to this suggesting the Albanians to lobby a plan according to which Kosovo, running counter to the UN resolution, would join Yugoslavia on the confederate basis. Thereby, the UN secretary general has himself violated the UN resolution envisaging the province’s only a partial autonomy. However, Mr. Annan’s suggestion, which by itself undermines US resolutions’ effectiveness, has been rejected primarily by Kosovo Albanians themselves. “This proposal is a step forward from the UN resolution No. 1244, but it does not represent a way out for Kosovo and for the Balkans as a whole,” says Ramush Haradinaj, leader of Kosovo Central Alliance which came third at the provincial elections held without Serbs, according to UPI news agency.
