Spain does not consider appeals of Russian democrats about Gusinsky

Yesterday TV channel NTV, controlled by Media-Most, demonstrated pictures of Grigory Yavlinsky’s and Boris Nemtsov’s visit to the Spanish embassy in Moscow. The politicians passed to ambassador an appeal towards the government of Spain, in which they stated that “Gusinsky’s case” is a political one and asked Spanish authorities to release the media-magnate. Jewish congress delivered the same appeal to the embassy earlier. The main prosecutor of National Court Board of Spain responded to these appeals. He stated that none’s opinions on “political process” will not be taken into account. Vladimir Gusinsky was imprisoned on the grounds of accusation of swindling, he said. “Criminal offence is concerned. Russia is a democratic state, signed European convention on extradition. We cannot doubt of its legislation”. “Only his [Gusinsky’s] lawyer can advance arguments about political prosecution, but we should not take them into account, because we can’t doubt of legality in Russia”. Meanwhile the a spokesman for General Prosecutor’s office has said that Gusinsky is accused of embezzlement of “hundreds millions dollars”.
