CRACKS ON OSTANKINO TOWER WIDENING

The condition of the Ostankino TV tower has markedly worsened, Nokolai Maslov, deputy chairman of Russia’s State Construction and Maintenance Committee (Gosstroi) said on Monday. In his words, “cracks have become noticeable on the inner surface of the tower’s concrete frame, and those cracks are widening with each day.” At that, Mr. Maslov did not expressed any serious concern over the tower’s stability. Nevertheless, considering the tower’s condition and in order to save time, Gosstroi, decided not to hold a tender on equipment supply, “When it come to emergency, tenders are out of the question any more, Mr. Maslov added.
