Arbatov comments the rumours about the movement of troops toward Belgrade - 6 October, 2000

Alexei Arbatov, vice-chairman of the State Duma committee of Defence, member of "Yabloko", comments the rumours about the movement of troops, true to Slobodan Milosovic, toward Belgrade. He considers that the situation as very dangerous. According to him, "if the troops reach Belgrade, the bloodshed will start". Arbatov reminds that the leaders of Yugoslavian armed forces claimed that they wouldn't interfere in the conflict. Arbatov hopes that they won't change their mind. In Arbatov's opinion, if Russia grants asylum to the ex-president of Yugoslavia, the relationships between two countries won't worsen. "I think that this action of Russia will be taken with thanks, because some western countries which threatened Milosovic, behaved unreasonably" - Arbatov remarked.
