Al-Qaeda offer reward for soldiers as Coup is foiled

Taleban and Al-Qaeda forces are offering 113,000 Euro in return for any international coalition soldier caught alive and 56,000 Euro for a body. Meanwhile a coup d’etat attempt masterminded by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has been defused.

The news was confirmed by Commander Bryan Hilferty, at the US base in Bagram, who confirmed: “Pamphlets were discovered in the province of Paktia, eastern Afghanistan, offering rewards for the capture or death of coalition men”,

As reports come in that the Taleban are planning a spring offensive from their mountain strongholds, the threat of continued violence is being taken seriously. 260 people have been arrested as a plan to assassinate most of Hamid Karzai’s government, masterminded by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, an ex-Mujaheddin warlord was discovered in time and there are reports that Taleban and Al-Qaeda forces have been preparing to launch a series of attacks with rocket-propelled mortars against military targets in Afghanistan.

Taleban and Al-Qaeda forces have been seen regrouping in the area of Gardez and Khost. The military operation is particularly difficult in this type of terrain, as the Soviet Army found to its cost, since at the first sign of attack, the guerrillas melt away into the hills, only to appear unexpectedly at another location for a surprise attack.
