“I doubt they will surrender alive”

During the On-line conferenceheld on the Internet, famous philosopher, sociologist and columnist Alexander Zinovyev answered the question of PRAVDA.Ru correspondent as for further fate of Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.

How do you think the trial on Slobodan Milosevic will end? Is it possible that Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic will be also brought to the Hague Tribunal soon? Americans are eager to capture them; however, the resonance caused by the capture of Karadzic and Mladic is hard to be predicted. (Sergey Stefanov, Moscow)

It is not a trial, but violence. The USA and NATO members are to put an end to the Balkan war. They wish to convict Milosevic at any cost. He will be convicted formally, but the very trial is to be considered a failure in the whole history of the Hague Tribunal. The accusations brought against Milosevic are slander. I know the situation in Serbia rather well. I always knew, the Serbian people resisted any adjustment to the western standards. I regret that the Serbian people have splitted up: one part of them had taken the treacherous side, that further assisted in the stealing of Milosevic.

In fact, Russia has betrayed Serbia in the war.

I admire Mladic and Karadzic; I wish them to avoid capture. But at the end, they can be caught. The two leaders are significant and brave persons of the 20th society, a trial similar to that one initiated on Milosevic will be started against both, if they are captured.

I doubt that they will surrender alive.
