European Union:New immigration laws but in Fortress Europa

New immigration measures are being drawn up by EU member states which will have important repercussions for Eastern European immigrants in future. Fortress Europa is closed.

The European union wishes to stimulate free circulation of workers in Europe, but within the European Union member states. The European Parliament is to discuss measures to harmonise laws, creating a uniform structure between the 15 member states for workers to move freely between these countries. The idea is to create a single labour legislation which regulates all professional categories, creating an internal common labour law.

Access to jobs for people from outside the Union will not be discussed, a sign that the EU is more and more a Fortress Europa. A single and coherent legislative framework is being drawn up in which minimum qualifications will be stipulated for professional categories throughout the EU countries.
