New Rules Go into Effect Today at Russian-Polish Border

The new rules for the crossing of the border between Russia and Poland go into effect today. According to the IAR news agency, Poles who leave near the border will be able to bring home 0.5 litres of alcohol and 1 pack of cigarettes once a month. The residents of other places in Poland and foreigners are entitled to bringing in 1 litre of alcohol and 10 pack of cigarettes over the same period. Citizens caught violating these rules will be treated as smugglers to the full extent of the law while those who admit they carry more than the rules limit them to will be sent back to Russia, their 'goods' confiscated.
