Conclusions of US specialists about Nikolai Melnichenko's so-called records could cause proceedings against Ukrainian experts

PRAVDA.Ru correspondent Alexandr Gorobets reports from Kiev. Today, the Supreme Rada commission on the case of missing journalist Georgy Gongadze took the decision not to hand over the US expert commission’s conclusions to the Public Prosecutor General’s Office. People’s deputies intend only to inform the Public Prosecutor General’s Office that there are such conclusions, because, as the deputies’ decision sounds, they do not trust the current leadership of the office. According to suggestion of people’s deputy Vladimir Mikhin, an address to the Public Prosecutor General’s Office was taken about instituting proceedings against the experts who carried out Ukrainian examination of Nikolai Melnichenko’s records, whose results were afterwards divulged by Public Prosecutor General Mikhail Potebenko. Ukrainian experts concluded that Melnichenko’s records were spurious.

Moreover, a decision was taken about shorthand notes by Nikolai Melnichenko in the president’s office. The notes also have been examined by US experts and they will be published in Golos Ukrainy parliament newspaper. Conclusions of the expert commission and the temporary investigation commission’s address to the heads of European countries, the US, and Canada will be published by the newspaper as well.

It became known that with help of FBI, other kinds of expert examinations are being carried out. First of all, of the records of the Ukrainian Presindent’s report about the successful election of People’s Deputy Alexandr Yelyashkevich. The definitive results of the examinations will be already be known next Sunday, Alexandr Zhir, head of Acting Commission for Resonance Crimes, said yesterday. If the results are positive, Zhir will insist on carrying out an extraordinary session of the Supreme Rada. At its yesterday’s session, the commission took the decision to appear with an official address to leaders of PACE, of the Council of Europe, and its member countries with the request to limit their official contacts with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, because he is suspected of implication in a series of crimes. At the same time, the commission’s members stated that the world community should not identify the Ukrainian nation with its president and stop any contacts with Ukrainian parliament and government. Zhir also reported that the address would be soon submitted to the addressees, while its text would appear in Golos Ukrainy.
