Australia: Boat people again

More than 350 illegal immigrants - mostly Iraqis - drowned Friday when their boat sank off the coast of Indonesia. United Nations officials look after 44 survivors rescued by an Indonesian fishing boat. The ship left the island of Java on Thursday morning, heading for Australia with 421 illegal immigrants on board. In the meantime, Australian Navy ships monitor the condition of another boat stranded off Christmas Island and carrying over 200 men, women and children from the Middle East. The engine of the small boat is broken, pumps stopped working and the ship is said to be taking water.
