Russian Government Approves Seasonal Duties On Unrefined Sugar

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov signed Decree No. 732 of October 17, 2001 to approve seasonal duties on unrefined sugar imported to Russia. The Department of Government Information reports that the duty rate for all kinds of imported unrefined sugar is set at 40% of the customs value, but not less than 0.12 euro per kg. The new duties will come into force one month after the date of official publication of this decree and will be valid until December 31, 2001 inclusive. The State Customs Committee has been instructed to collect these seasonal duties. The decree also applies to this product imported to the customs territory of Russia from the customs territory of Belarus in the event that it is cleared through customs for free selling in Belarus without collection of the above-mentioned seasonal duties or without transferring these sums to the federal budget in accordance with the specified procedure.
