Andrei Cherkasov: The town Kamyshin rewarded

According to the results of the competition among small Russian towns in 2001, the town Kamyshin was declared “the most well-organized town om Russia." Mr Alferov, the town’s major, has even received a diploma from the competition’s organizers. The reward is really important, because Kamyshin positively differs from other cities on that scale thanks to the efforts of local authorities, gardeners, and workers of municipal services. The territory of the Kamyshin glass factory could be regarded as ideal: it is literally bordered in verdure. Unfortunately, there is one more reason to pay attention to this town on the Volga River. Like in many other Russian cities, Kamyshin's population is rapidly diminishing. According to recent statistics, 124.1 thousand people live in Kamyshin. In comparison with 1995, the number of citizens has been reduced by almost 5 thousand. Today, there are no reasons to hope that this process will be slow down. In August, 103 people were born in Kamyshin, while 152 people died. As you can see, the number of the dead is more than the number of born. Such serious losses are normal only for war time. And we should not forget that Kamyshin is one of the most well-organized and prosperous towns in the Volgograd region.
