Shimon Peres: Russia should join NATO

“The expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to the East should be started with those countries, which took the side of the USA and Europe in the struggle against terrorism. These countries are Russia, India, China and Japan,” - Israeli Foreign Minister stated.

“The global defense system must adjust itself for that struggle. NATO’s huge resources could be used for the struggle with modern dangers instead of the struggle with yesterday’s enemies,” – Perese wrote in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

According to Peres’s opinion, the new danger had no limits. “No one is striving to turn the struggle against terrorism in the war or the ground for the war against religion, people or certain groups.”

This is surely fine. But before offering to include Russia, India, China and Japan in NATO, it would be also nice to ask what those countries have to say on that. This is considered to be common in the civilized society. Moreover, Russia was not very enthusiastic to join NATO.
