Belarus And Cuba Intend To Expand Cooperation

Prospects for expanding Belarussian-Cuban cooperation in the political and economic spheres will be discussed during the working visit to Minsk of Angel Dalmau Fernandez, deputy foreign minister of Cuba. The visit is scheduled to take place on October 10-11. At a briefing on Thursday, Pavel Latushko, press secretary of the Belarussian foreign ministry, said that the Cuban guest's itinerary envisaged his meeting with the Belarussian foreign minister Mikhail Khvostov and visits to some enterprises which are interested in developing cooperation with Cuba. Over the past several years, Cuba has been one of the main trading partners of Belarus in Latin America. The average annual volume of bilateral trade amounts to about 50 million US dollars. Belarus supplies mostly potassium fertilisers to Cuba, while Cuba exports its raw sugar to Belarus. However, in the past period Belarus has considerably increased its supplies of tractors and spare parts to them, engines, automobiles, tyres, optics and electrical equipment to Cuba.
