Russia's Investment Climate Improves

The investment climate in Russia has improved, Thierry Malleret, an organiser of a forthcoming Moscow session of the World Economic Forum, told a press conference Friday. The meeting will be held on October 29 and 30. Malleret said structural reforms in Russia have gained strength since last June and July. The Moscow meeting is intended to signal to investors that the situation has markedly improved over the last few months, he said. He added that this is obvious for people staying in Russia but not as obvious for those abroad. Another major goal of the meeting, Malleret said, is to map out ways to promote further progress in the improvement of Russian economic developments. Among these ways he mentioned reforms of the customs service, taxation, and corporate management. Russia's movement towards joining the World Trade Organisation is of major importance for improvement of the investment climate, Malleret said.
