32-nd Communist Congress Works Out Short-term Strategy

Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Union of Communist Parties, SKP, and head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, or KPRF, told journalists in the interval of the Moscow congress that the Congress of communist parties is aiming to work out a strategy of the communist party for the nearest future. While speaking about changes in the SKP Charter, Zyuganov indicated that they would introduce the post of one more SKP first deputy chairman. The communist leader was of the opinion that "without restoration of the former Soviet Union on a voluntary basis it was impossible to overcome the crisis." At the same time, he ascertained that the major issue would be "how to restore broken relations." According to Zyuganov, the congress will also consider the matter of "how to protect workers in former Soviet republics." He specifically singled out consideration of such problem as "how to quickly stop conflicts" in the territory of the former Soviet Union. The 32rd SKP Congress is held behind closed doors and involves 250 delegates representing 14 communist parties of the former Soviet Union.
