Sub Designer Singles Out Two Probable Versions Of Kursk Catastrophe

On Tuesday, Igor Spassky, general designer with the Central Design Bureau "Rubin", said at a press conference that he was considering two probable versions of the "Kursk" submarine catastrophe: torpedo launcher's exposure to external influence and malfunction of a torpedo itself. However without complete investigation and all the required examinations we cannot make a conclusion, said Sapssky. He also said that in November Rubin would finalize development of a technology to hoist fragments of the first compartment of the nuclear submarine Kursk. Spassky stressed that he was talking about the fragments as the whole compartment did not exist any longer. Presently Rubin specialists are studying photos made, when Kursk was at the bottom of the Barents sea, in order to raise only those fragments which contained information useful for investigation.
