Money apportioned for doctors of Primorye region carrying out hunger strike

The administration of the Shkotovski district of the Primorye region apportioned today 150 thousand rubles (approximately $ 5,172) for the clearing off of the 3-month debt of the salary owed to ambulance doctors, who declared a hunger strike. This was reported by Galina Yermoshina, chairman of trade unions’ Primorye regional committee of medical workers.

The hunger-strike of 19 doctors, medical attendants, ambulance car drivers, and of two workers of the district hospital attending over 20 settlements of the district, has been continuing for four days. However, the doctors visited their patients in emergency cases, RIA ‘Novosti’ reports. According to the hunger strike’s participants, this action of protest is the only way to draw the authorities’ attention. The last payment to the doctors was made this June to pay off the debt for 1999. According to Yermoshina, the total sum of the debt owed to medical workers of Shkotovski district is 486,000 rubles (approximately $ 16,758).
