Federation Council's Head Supports Increase In Presidential Term

The presidential term should be increased from four to five years, Federation Council's chairman Sergey Mironov announced at a press conference in St. Petersburg today. He stressed that four years is a too short period for Russia that is still in the transition period. At the same time, Mironov noted he never supported an increase in the presidential term from four to seven years. The official explained that presidential and parliamentary election campaigns take place almost simultaneously in Russia and this hampers state governing bodies from effective preparation for elections.
