Russia is playing an important role in the Mideastern peace process being one of its co-sponsors, Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah al-Khatib told Russian Foreign Ministry's Special Representative in the Middle East Andrei Vdovin. The Russian diplomat is making a tour over several Mideastern countries aimed at easing the tension in Palestinian-Israeli relations and resuming the negotiations. Abdul Ilah al-Khatib and Andrei Vdovin exchanged opinions on the situation in Palestine in the light of the latest events and on the ways of boosting the programme of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement in accordance with the Tenet-Mitchell plan. Amman is supporting the international efforts on the normalization of the peace process, the Jordanian minister stressed.
