The General Prosecutor's Office To Examine Fuel and Enegry Enterprises

The General Prosecutor's Office will carry out a comprehensive examination of the Fuel and Enegry Enterprises Complex in the first half of 2002, councillor of the General Prosecutor of Russia Vladimir Kolesnikov said at today's press conference. The investigation has so far found that the Russian companies received 100m tons of Iraqi oil in 1997-2000 worth $12bn in line with the "Oil for Food" program. After selling the oil at world prices the Russian companies' bank accounts should have been credited with $15bn. In fact, only $300m came, Kolesnikov said. The decision to hold an examination was made at the session of the Security Council of Russian Federation in December, which covered the issues of the Russian Fuel and Enegry Enterprises Complex, Kolesnokov concluded.
